Blippar is the leading visual discovery app, harnessing augmented reality and image-recognition technology to bring the physical world to life through smartphones.
Blippar’s visual search tool can recognize hundreds of millions of items, at least on a category level. Some of these items are simply recognized as ‘car’ or ‘trouser’, whereas other items can get hyper-specific, like flora and animals.
To use it, users fire up the iOS or Android Blippar app and point their smartphone camera at the object of interest.

The app then uses Blippar's "proprietary knowledge graph" to analyse the object's characteristics and suggest what that it might be — based on its previous performance of recognizing similar objects — and then offer additional useful information about it from the web.
Blippar uses more than one hundred sources to give this information, but wouldn’t specify who it has partnered with on content.
