HACKERS HACK BANKS AROUND THE WORLD

Researchers at the US cybersecurity company FireEye have discovered that hackers have begun to probe the defences of banks in the Middle East by targeting bank employees with malware-infected emails to collect information about bank networks and user accounts.
FireEye (FEYE) researchers say a series of cyberattacks on Middle Eastern banks isn’t related to an earlier digital heist of Bangladesh Bank that netted $81 million, but didn’t say whether it has ties to similar assults on banks in Ecuador and Vietnam. The identity of the hackers in all three cases is not known. Cyber-security experts say the attackers would have needed to gather knowledge about bank procedures and systems, as well as gain remote access to launch fraudulent transfer requests. FireEye researchers said in a blog post that in early May they had identified “a wave of emails containing malicious attachments being sent to multiple banks in the Middle East.”
